MIGUEL ÁNGEL GÓMEZ-ELVIRA GONZÁLEZ was born in Madrid on March 16, 1961. He is an Agronomist (October 1986) and an Agricultural Engineer (May 1994) at Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM).

CAREER

Agronomist in the private sector (September 1987 – August 1988). Professor at Interim University School of UPM (October 1988 – September 1994). Associate Professor at Interim University of UPM (October 1994 – November 1996). Professor at ETSIAAB UPM School of Agricultural Engineers (November 1996 – present) in the department of “Cartographic Engineering, Geodesy and Photogrammetry – Graphic Expression”. Area of expertise: Graphic Expression in Engineering.

TEACHING:

Subjects taught in the Degree Agricultural Engineering: Graphic Expression (2nd Year, 1st semester. 4.5 credits). Technical Curves (Elective in 2nd semester. 1 credit). Computer Aided Drawing (CAD) (Elective in 2nd semester. 4.5 credits). Professor of CAD and GIS programmes in institutional and private courses.

RESEARCH:

The areas of research of professor Gómez-Elvira are:
  1. Presentation systems in engineering development.
  2. Study of the singularities of the technical curves applied to engineering.
  3. Study of ancient agri-food history and techniques using Computer Aided Drawing (CAD).
  4. Study and graphic documentation of the current agri-food industry using CAD.
  5. Study and graphic documentation of rural constructions, civil works and rural infrastructure and its integration into the landscape, by means of Graphic Engineering and Geographic Information Systems.
  6. Study and graphic documentation of agricultural machinery with Graphic Engineering techniques.
Professor Gómez-Elvira’s contributions to GESPLAN are the following:
  1. Use and expertise in cartographic support (Bounded Plans System) in projects
  2. The link to local reality in the planning, management and evaluation models of GESPLAN is established with the tools of Graphic Engineering (DAO, GIS, Photogrammetry, etc.).
  3. Latest contribution with the Doctoral Thesis by Mr. Enrique Pérez Martín: “Graphic Engineering applied to agro-industrial activities and their integration into the territory”. The study was developed based on the Windmills from 16th to 19th century in two regions of La Mancha (Campo de Criptana and Consuegra).
